Sony has already revealed that it will be updating a handful of Xperia devices to Android 5.1 starting this July, but what they failed to mention was that the rollout will commence only for three devices in the month itself. So it’s real simple, if you don’t have the Xperia Z3, Z3 Compact or Z2 then you will have to wait a little longer. About the timeline of the Lollipop 5.1 release it has been confirmed by our sources at Sony India’s R&D division that for now only Xperia Z3, Z3 Compact and Z2 are scheduled for the July release. The Xperia Z1, Z, ZL and ZR are bound to get the update sooner than later, we just don’t think it will be happen in July though.

Like all software updates the Android 5.0 Lollipop release brought several Bugs on the Xperia’s that received it, however not all these bugs were Sony’s fault (Like missing Silent Mode). The Android 5.1 release is expected to fix several of these issues for good, but we don’t know if Sony has fixed it all. As seen on the LG manufactured Google Nexus 5, the update bought a severe memory bug, that devoured a huge chunk of system resources causing random reboots and app crashes. Several similar issues are present on the Xperia’s running Android 5.0 Lollipop but we hope that the Android 5.1 software package will fix them.
