Well this isn’t the first time that we see two products from the same manufacturer going head to head for a comparison. The Samsung Galaxy device always have been very similar to one another and believe it or not there are a ton of people who are confused between the Galaxy Note Product line & Galaxy S Product line. Well this may be some help for you to choose.
The Samsung Galaxy S4 has been in the market for almost 6 months and it has established its ground very well, it has been breaking record sales of the Galaxy SIII in the past. The Galaxy Note 3 on the other hand is one of the latest and freshest Smartphone on the market and i still not even available on open sale. Lets us have a look on these two beasts and help you establish a better understanding of each. We will compare these smartphone on four different categories.
- Design & Built.
- Performance.
- Special features (Touchwiz).
- Camera (Still & Video).
Design and Built : When it comes to design of a smartphone Samsung has been always criticized and to be true its not like people hate them its just that their designs are rather size changes than a design change. The Galaxy S4 has been found to be very similar to the galaxy SIII and the Note II. The Galaxy S4 is a very light phone and it is also one of the most compact smartphone packing a 5 Inch display. The thickness is just 7.9 mm. While the Note 3 is not of somewhat the regular Galaxy design (at least not the S3 & Note 2 generation) it some how has more resemblance to the original Galaxy Note with a few adjustments from the Note 2 (Semi-Oval Home Key). It has 5.7 Inch display but still maintains the same profile as the Note 2 and is again both thinner and lighter. The back has also been re-designed by Samsung to give it a more Note/Diary look with a leather stitched pattern which is something nice in our opinion. So there is no harm in saying that the Galaxy Note 3 has better design though being compact is absent as one being the Phablet.
Dimensions & Weights :
- Galaxy S4 : 136.6 x 69.8 x 7.9 mm (5.38 x 2.75 x 0.31 in) at 130g.
- Galaxy Note 3 : 151.2 x 79.2 x 8.3 mm (5.95 x 3.12 x 0.33 in) at 160g.
Performance : As we know Galaxy S4 was once the fastest phone on the market ( I9500 & I9505 both models) and there was nothing that could beat it but with passing months the launch of the Snapdragon 800 made this not so acceptable. The Galaxy S4 comes in Two variants the I9500 with the Samsung Exynos Octa processor and the I9505 with a Snapdragon 600 Quad core processor. While when we take a look on The Galaxy Note 3 there are also Two variants again with the Exynos Octa and the Snapdragon 800. We have seen that the Snapdragon versions have been released in the greater smartphone markets like UK & The USA so we will be comparing the Snapdragon models for the performance section.
The Galaxy S4 has been killing the competition with its Snapdragon 600 Quad Core processor with a 1.9GHz clockspeed. There is nothing it could not handle. The 2 Gigs of RAM also makes the multitasking a play for the galaxy S4 thereby making it one of the best performers in the android army. The Note 3 on the other hand has a Snapdragon 800 powering it and it is backed up by 3 Gigs of RAM (only Smartphone to have 3 GB of RAM yet) as the raw power of the Snapdragon 800 beast wasn’t enough alone. The Note 3 is the undisputed champion even when compared to the other snapdragon 800 monsters like the LG G2 also, let Galaxy S4 be aside at this point. Every task given to it is done in a split second and there is just no stopping it. Multitasking is like a breeze for the Note 3 as 3Gigs of RAM is an insane lot. The Galaxy Note 3 leaves nothing in terms of performance and takes the clear win over the Galaxy S4.
Special features (Touchwiz) : When Samsung launched The Galaxy S4 back in march 2013 it had some great tricks up its sleeves like the Smart Pause, Smart Scroll & the Air Gestures Etc. This was too much extra already with the android 4.2.2 Touchwiz from Samsung but what comes in the Note 3 is the S4′s extra + extra. To be clear, what we are trying to say is that the Note 3 being from the Note line is accompanied by a S-Pen and this includes some great feature that are specific to the Note 3 itself and even after update they still will be Exclusive as S4 doesn’t come with a S-Pen. The Galaxy Note 3 offers all that the S4 has and still manages to keep many tricks exclusive making it the more feature rich smartphone. Also it comes with android 4.3 out of the box and not forget the support of the Galaxy gear feature.
Camera : Well the camera’s in the Galaxy S4 and Note 3 are both 13MP units. The still quality and the special photo modes are identical too so there is nothing to distinguish them. While when we talk about the Video recording capabilities the Note 3 has an easy win over the Galaxy S4 as it can record 1080p videos @60fps compared to Galaxy S4′s 30fps capabilities. Also the Note 3 can record 4k videos (2160p@30fps) which again the Galaxy S4 can not. Hence the Galaxy Note 3 has a better Camera unit.
Galaxy S4 over Galaxy Note 3 :
- Compact & lighter.
- Cheaper.
- Higher Pixel density.
Galaxy Note 3 over Galaxy S4 :
- Faster (Snapdragon 800 vs Snapdragon 600)
- 32 GB storage in standard units & 3 GB RAM.

- Exclusive S-Pen features.
- Android 4.3 out of the Box.
