T-Mobile has finally announced the Android 4.3 update for their Galaxy S4 starting today itself. The OTA (Over the Air) update notification shall pop up on your phone if you are already in line to receive it. The OTA update is sized about 780MB so be sure that you have a Wi-Fi network connected or you may end up with huge mobile data charge on your bill. T-Mobile mentioned that the update will start rolling out from today and will go all the way to February which is kind of “very long period” for an update but they also stated that a quicker update via Kies is still on the table for those who don’t want to wait (I guess they mean everyone :P) your S4 will have to be on build M919UVUAMDL if you want to get the OTA update M919UVUEMK2.
The features that come along with the Android 4.3 update remain similar to all other unlocked and carrier variants of the Galaxy S4 and can be listed as :
- OpenGL 3.0 Support
- GALAXY GEAR Support
- TRIM Support (Makes the device much faster)
- ANT+ Support
- Samsung KNOX Implementation (KNOX bootloader and dedicated application)
- Samsung Wallet comes pre-loaded
- Improved RAM management
- Improved Display colour reproduction (Display looks much sharper than before)
- Improved TouchWiz Launcher (Much less launcher redraws and less lag)
- New Samsung Keyboard
- New Samsung Browser (Full screen by default, new tab interface and more)
- New Reading Mode (Optimises display for reading, used by only a few specific applications)
- New Camera firmware
- Minor UI tweaks (Contacts app, Flashlight Widget, dialog boxes etc)
If you haven’t received a notification about this update yet then it might be a good time to check that “Software Update” section in your T-Mobile’s Galaxy S4 settings. To repeat the obvious you must go to Settings > More > About Device > Software update > Update.
