Samsung has sold over 30 million Galaxy S3’s since it was released last year in March and it still is one of the top-dogs in Android army, but it seems that finally its starting to loose its charm. The Galaxy S3 was updated with Android 4.3 a few weeks ago and many European countries including United Kingdom received this update but soon after there was a lot of chaos about several bugs that the update introduced into the Galaxy S3 and since then it has been on a hold. Today it has been more than 2 weeks since the update was officially pulled back by Samsung and no commitment to provide a stable one soon has been made till yet.
The Reasons for the delay to the fix from Samsung.
We are surely not accusing Samsung here but we need to look at the facts and reasons why Samsung may be delaying a fix for the Android 4.3 update for the Galaxy S3. Now as some of you might know that Samsung Galaxy S4, alike its predecessor has also been suffering from some major issues since the update to Android 4.3 was provided to it and there has been a fix that was released in United Kingdom at the latest arrival. The AT&T Android 4.3 update for Galaxy S4 was also sabotaged by the same issues and it had to be temporarily suspended too in the United States (now its rolling out again). Now to make a simple 2+2 = 4 calculation here, it seems that Galaxy S4 is being given priority over the Galaxy S3 which is very well understood as Samsung Galaxy S4 has a greater sales figure and a flagship’s charm to it, so the fix update might roll out after the issues have completely been addressed for the Galaxy S4 customers around the globe. To talk on the official statements recently Samsung UK has updated their Facebook page with the following message :
We’re sorry with the issue with the recent Galaxy S3 4.3 Jellybean update, and we assure you that we are taking it very seriously. We are working hard to resolve this as soon as possible. As soon as we have more information, we will pass it on to you.
To add to the above argument, Samsung didn’t roll out the update through an OTA (Over the Air) notification and instead chose to rely on Kies for the Galaxy S4 fix so they may not have enough resources to afford an OTA roll-out for millions of Samsung Galaxy S3 and Samsung Galaxy S4 users worldwide and the update may come again via Kies for the Galaxy S3 users.
When to expect the update for the Galaxy S3 to continue.
As the current situations build up, there is still no clear sight to the “When ?” but the update might take less than a week to continue for the Galaxy S3, and with the issues for the Galaxy S4 nearly resolved we believe that Samsung will manage to pull it off. It has been a long wait for all the Galaxy S3 owners who have been stuck on Android 4.1.2 for more than 10 months now and the longer it takes, the more users might drift from Samsung in the future as Galaxy S3 was one expensive smartphone when it launched, and this kind of treatment for its support might be not be excused, unless Samsung provides Android 4.4 KitKat directly to the Galaxy S3 soon, which is surely not going to happen.
Tip : Stay tuned as we will be doing a post on “How to Manually update Galaxy S3 to official Android 4.3″ as soon as we find an official ROM stable enough to put our efforts into.
