If you happen to have a Sony Xperia SP and you don’t care about the Android Updates then your life is good enough, however if that’s not the case then this might turn out to be a very frustrating issue. The Xperia SP Android 4.4.2 KitKat update has been in the dark for quite a while and Sony’s “Under Investigation” Status isn’t helping anyone now. The Australian division of IBTimes has indicated a new firmware build version 12.1.A.1.205 which is now certified by PTCRB, however there are no details if this firmware is Android 4.4.2 or a Bug Fix Android 4.3 update. The roll out is expected to start in June which falls in line with the recently leaked document we obtained from Sony India but certainty isn’t what we have ! Not yet !
Sony shouldn’t be having any issues in giving the KitKat update to Xperia SP as it meets all the requirements. The device has a 6 month software support left on its life, the chipset used is Qualcomm Snapdragon and there is a full gig of RAM that is enough to run KitKat along with Sony’s own UI, that isn’t heavy (Bloated) like the Samsung Touchwhiz. If Sony was working on an Android 4.3 Bug Fix for the Xperia SP there is no point in releasing it now as users have already gone through the long initial worst phase of glitches and bugs. Also they should have updated their official support page to Android 4.3 (final) instead of Android 4.4 KitKat “Under Investigation” status by now. Keep your fingers crossed and stay tuned for all the updates on this subject.
