Media Tek is a chipset manufacturer that roots in Taiwan, they have been known to power many cheaper smartphone (Micromax Canvas being one of them) with their SoC’s till now. It seems that they are looking to change where they stand in the market and are likely to enter in competition with Samsung’s Exynos and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon range of SoC’s, as they have launched their new True Octa-Core Processor today and it comes with LTE on board. The new MT6595 chip is well presented with four 2.2~2.5 GHz Cortex A17 cores and four 1.7 GHz Cortex A7, the PowerVR Series6 GPU is also an addition. The new A17 cores along with an increased clock speed and are also said to be 60% faster than the A9′s that power many high end smartphones from 2012 (Galaxy S III & Note II).
The other advantage Media Tek brings over its Korean rival Samsung is the True octa-core support by implying Heterogeneous Multi-Processing (HMP) thus making the MT6595 chip, the first True octa-core LTE enabled processor. Aside from the fact that the chip will be faster than the Exynos SoC’s that uses four A15 cores and four A7′s at lower clock speed, there is also support for 4K2K video recording (Note 3 with Exynos SoC does not have 4k Video recording). The new chips are expected to come inside an actual smartphone by the second half of the year.
