HTC managed to get some reputation when it gave it’s flagship for 2013, the HTC One Android 4.3 ahead of Samsung and Sony but it seems this might not be the case for the Android 4.4 KitKat update. To whole story here is that HTC has provided the Developer edition of HTC One with Android 4.4 KitKat already but as we saw that a dual fix named Android 4.4.2 is now the latest version of Android and Google released it specially to squash the bugs that came with the sweetness of KitKat. Last week there were some announcements from HTC USA that they will be soon releasing the Android 4.4.2 update for the HTC One developer edition but there was no specific date that they emphasized on and HTC’s Mo Versi confirmed timing for the HTC One Developer Edition Android 4.4.2 KitKat update, saying that the update will be released at some point in January. This surely makes the things complicated as now the developer edition will verify the stability of HTC’s Sense with the Android 4.4.2 first, then when finalized the update will be made available to the International and carrier variants of the HTC One.
This somewhat makes it clear that the update isn’t that close and the 90 days that HTC promised may be the “after 90 days not within” as of now. This may not be essentially a bad news if you ask me, as 2013 has almost come to an end and the Android 4.4 being a major update can be waited for. Also Samsung has also not even officially announced the Android 4.4 update for its Galaxy S4 yet so HTC One users are still on the profitable side of the game. Till now only the Google Play Editions (HTC One GPE & Samsung Galaxy S4 GPE) from both manufactures are rocking the Android 4.4.2 KitKat.
