As we all are aware that Apple has finally launched the Successor to its last year iPhone 5, we discuss is it really worth upgrading to the iPhone 5S from the iPhone 5.
Well as we know that every year the company launches a new flagship and a number of us are left wondering should i update or should i wait for the “Next Big Thing”. Well its really a matter of personal choice than the necessary change (like getting a procedure at your doctor). The Apple iPhone 5s being the successor has improvements over the iPhone 5 as one would expect, but are they enough ? Let us find out discussing each of them below.
The Design : Apple has not done this for the first time but it has been happening since the launch of the product line.
- The orignal iPhone, The iPhone 3G & The iPhone 3GS all shared the same design when they were launched.
- The iPhone 4 & The iPhone 4S were identical too.
- The iPhone 5 (Just taller than the iPhone 4s &4) & The iPhone 5S are identical again.
Well this might not be a big deal for some but we are sure that it is s very big deal for a most of the people who are on the iPhone ship in the Smartphone market. To take the argument to the conclusion when Samsung launched their Galaxy S4 it was criticized for retaining a very similar design to the Galaxy S3 (It was similar not identical) and here we are seeing the Same phone over and over again. One would not be able to differentiate between the iPhone 5 & iPhone 5s when put together in the same color choice.
Performance : When it comes to performance Apple has always managed to take it up the hill. The iPhone 5s is powered by the new Apple A7 chip which poses a 64 Bit architecture to comply with the iOS 7 64 Bit software needs. This makes iPhone 5s the first 64-bit smartphone in the world and as we know that’s comparable to the desktop systems. Also it has been that the A7 chip provides up to double the processing and Graphical processing power to the iPhone 5 (already a very fast phone). With all this on board the iPhone 5S makes the use of a co-processor named as the M7. The M7 co-processor is a support to the A7 chip. It’s designed in way that it measures motion data from the accelerometer, gyroscope, and compass which is usually done by the processor itself (A7 chip in this case). The main purpose for this is to power up the iPhone 5S for variety of sports and heath related applications. This is surely a big step as even with an update to the iOS 7 the Apple iPhone 5 would still be missing the 64 Bit operating capabilities and the M7 co-processor (Not to mention the Double amount of power the A7 has over the A6).
Camera : The iPhone 5s retains a 8MP camera sensor like the previous two generations of the iPhone has. Apple still have somehow managed to convince us that it has improve the camera in the iPhone 5s over the iPhone 5. There are more “possibilities with the camera” as Apple says. Let us a have look on the major upgraded features of the camera.
- A wider f/2.2 aperture as opposed to f/2.4 and a 15% larger image sensor.
- There is also a new double LED flash on the iPhone 5s (True Tone). It consists of two LEDs, with each having a different color temperature. The mixing of the LEDs color temperature allows for up to 1000 variations of the light output temperature.
- The camera also comes with new image stabilization, albeit digital one. It works by taking four photos with a short exposure time. Then the best parts of those photos are combined into one image with as little noise, subject motion, and hand shake as possible.
- There is a Burst mode that can take upto 10 Snaps in a go and will also suggest the best.
- The iPhone 5S can also record 720p videos @ 120fps enabling them to come up in slow motion. Also a 3X zoom is available by simple pinching.
- The panorama mode has also been improved to be faster @ 30fps (Compared to 15fps of iPhone 5).
Touch ID : Apple has embedded a touch sensor into the Home button of the iPhone 5 which they are calling the Touch ID. The major functions that it performs are providing enhanced security in the sense that you can set it up to work instead of a pass-code lock. Also it supports authorization for tasks like buying applications from iTunes store.
Color options : The new iPhone 5s will be available in black and white fronts as before. The new option for a Golden back adds a third variety. The newly available colors are Space Gray (Black+Gray back), Gold (White+Golden back), and Silver (White+Silver back).
Price : $199 for a 16GB, $299 for a 32GB & $399 for a 64GB version. This prices will be valid for a Two-year contract.
