When it comes to Android updates, Samsung seem to have been lagging badly when put against competition and it is for good reasons. As a Samsung user one would know the amount of features they cook in their Touchwhiz UI, these features require absolute integration into the vanilla android which isn’t something easy to do. The Touchwhiz UI has been criticized numerous times for the lag and bloat in has, but Samsung has been trying hard to get rid of it and have managed to make things pretty decent since the Lollipop update last year. However, this does not justify their incapability to deliver timely updates even to flagship devices like the Note 5.
Samsung Galaxy S6 Android 6.0 Marshmallow update.
In February, after weeks of rumors and several days of confusion, Samsung finally took a step in the right direction and we finally have some movement for multiple devices. Samsung has finally confirmed its first trio of Marshmallow updates. Unsurprisingly, they’re headed to the Galaxy S6. The Samsung Galaxy S6 Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update is rolling out for the Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge and Galaxy S6 Edge Plus in Korea. We’ve also seen a number of other Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge Marshmallow updates roll out around the world. Marshmallow updates have also started rolling out in the United Kingdom, Austria, Russia, Iraq and the Netherlands. More recently, updates have landed for models in Croatia, Germany, Czech Republic, Italy, Macedonia, Spain, and a whole lot more more.
The Samsung Galaxy S6 Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update recently made it to North America with Sprint users reporting the start of an Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow roll out for the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge. The U.S. bound Galaxy S6 Marshmallow update is huge, over 1GB in size, and it delivers a long list of enhancements, features, and bug fixes. Now that they’re making their way to United States, Asia, Europe and the Middle East, we expect more Galaxy S6 Marshmallow updates to follow.

Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Android 6.0 Marshmallow update.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and the Galaxy Note Edge will both receive Marshmallow updates in the United States. T-Mobile’s confirmed both updates though neither has budged since last year. They, like the carrier’s other Galaxy Marshmallow updates, remain in “Manufacturer Development” purgatory. This likely means that they’re weeks away at least. A more recent report suggests that the two updates will roll out sometime in April. Both have reportedly been approved and we now have the evidence to prove it, for the Galaxy Note 4 at least. The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Android 6.0.1 update has popped up in a certification at the Wi-Fi Alliance. This doesn’t mean that a roll out for the Galaxy Note 4 will happen today or tomorrow. What it means is that Samsung and its aging former flagship are making progress. Look for the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 to be one of the next in line for Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow and its changes.
Samsung Galaxy S5 Android 6.0 Marshmallow update.
Samsung hasn’t rolled out a Galaxy S5 Marshmallow beta yet but the Galaxy S5 Marshmallow update is confirmed. T-Mobile’s confirmed a Galaxy S5 Marshmallow release though like the Galaxy S6 Marshmallow update, it’s in the “Manufacturer Development” phase. Meaning, it still needs to go through T-Mobile testing before it can be released to the public.
The fact that T-Mobile is planning a Galaxy S5 Marshmallow update is a good sign for other Galaxy S5 users in the United States and around the world. Most carriers are silent about their plans but there’s a good chance this roll out will reach everyone. A report from October backs up this assertion and suggests that development has begun on Galaxy S5, Galaxy S5 Neo and Galaxy S5 LTE-A Marshmallow updates around the world including here in the United States. A leaked document suggests that the Galaxy S5 Android Marshmallow release date will take place in March or April of this year. A more recent leak suggests that the Galaxy S5 Android 6.0.1 update will roll out in May.
