Sony has been a major player in the Android league since the Xperia Z series came along, with news supporting Sony’s plan to departure from Smartphone business in 2015 the Xperia owners are left in the dark not only for future hardware support but also the awaiting android updates that was promised to them. While Samsung, LG, HTC and Motorola have already updated their 2014 flagships to Lollipop 5.0 Sony has been “Evidently Slow” with the process, however new sources and leads indicate that the Xperia Z3, Z2 and Z1 owners in United States, Canada, Australia and United Kingdom will get their hands on Lollipop soon enough
Leads from XperiaBlog have suggested that the update in already in testing for the carriers like Vodafone in Australia, supporting that are numerous breakouts that have already shown Beta Versions of Lollipop running on Unlocked Xperia Z3 units and seeing that things are going in the right direction the major mobile carriers in North America and UK are bound to deliver this update anytime soon. The past leaks suggesting the update to be released in the month of February haven’t been true entirely but Sony’s incompetence to deliver timely software solutions isn’t something we or anyone can vouch for. We have also seen Xperia Z3 Compact running Android 5.0 Lollipop at MWC 2015 which you can check out in Video below.
As you can see Sony has embedded the Material Design that Google has been showcasing in the Lollipop Release into it’s own Timescape UI very well. The changes are visual, as well as performance based and serves the Xperia’s near stock experience very well.
Also it has been now confirmed once again that the Non-Xperia Z series devices will not be getting Android 5.0 Lollipop update in the latest report from folks over at XperiaBlog. So sadly the Non-Z owners will have to do with KitKat as the Final version.
